After washing your hair, you should always treat your hair with a good quality conditioner. These conditioners help in repairing your damaged hair and make them smooth, shinny and manageable. More than a normal conditioner, you can trust a leave-in conditioner, which remains in the hair for a longer period of time and makes it healthy. But the conditioners available in the market usually contain harmful chemicals which not only damage the texture but also degrade the quality of hair. So, the best way to avoid them is to have a homemade leave-in conditioner, which will give you healthy hair and will assure you about the usage of no chemical components.

Why Leave-in Conditioner?

Normal conditioners are applied and are rinsed off immediately, whereas leave-in conditioners are left on the hair for a longer period of time. This gives them more time to repair the damaged hair follicles and to protect them from dust and pollution. To get the best leave-in conditioner, prepare it at home with natural ingredients and minimum chemicals. If you have oily hair, then you can use a water based leave-in conditioner, whereas if they are dry, then you can go for nourishing oils based conditioner.


Following are the recipes for leave-in conditioner which will help you to get silky smooth and healthy hair.

For Dry Hair

  • 2 Tablespoons honey
  • 1 Lemon (juice)
  • 2 Egg yolk
  • 1 Ripe banana

Get all the ingredients and start the preparation. First of all mash the banana till it takes the form of a smooth pulp. Then mix all the other ingredients in this pulp and keep mixing it till it forms a paste. Now once you are done with the preparation, wash your hair and wrap a hot towel on the hair so as to give it steam. Then remove the towel and then apply the paste evenly on the hair. Leave it for at least 15 minutes and then rinse it off with plain water. This is one of the best leave-in hair conditioners for dry hair.

For Oily Hair

  • Distilled water
  • Commercial conditioner (brand which suits your hair)
  • Rosemary essential oil

For oily hair you need to have a water based conditioner. Hence for oily hair we are going to take distilled water. Take 8 ounces of distilled water and mix 4 ounce of commercial shampoo. Prefer the brand which suits you and which is especially meant for oily hair. Now add 7 to 8 drops of rosemary essential oil in the mixture and mix it well. Wash your hair and give steam with the help of hot towel. Now apply the prepared homemade hair conditioner and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. After the mentioned time rinse it off with plain water.

For Curly Hair

  • Honey (2 tablespoons)
  • Coconut milk
  • Coconut oil
  • Shea butter

Shea butter leave-in conditioner is very helpful in giving shine and health to the curly hair. The ingredients given above can be mixed in equal quantity. Wash your hair, give them stem and then apply the mixture evenly to the hair. Apply them properly to the ends of the hair. Now keep them for 15 minutes and then rinse it off. It will provide proper moisture and shine to your curls.

Choose any leave-in conditioner which suits your hair and has natural ingredients. But if you want to give your hair a natural and chemical free shine, then go for the homemade products.
