Dry and damaged hair is not only difficult to manage, but it gives the hair an unhealthy, lifeless appearance. To tackle this problem, there are various home remedies that are healthy, safe, and free of chemicals.

Did you know that a human head has an average of 150,000 hair follicles? They need to be taken care of regularly, and should be subjected to as little chemicals as possible. Most people who face hair problems turn to commercially manufactured products to look for a solution.
These products contain high levels of chemicals that may give short-term results, but cause damage to the hair on a long-term basis. One of the common hair problems that many face is dry and damaged hair. The signs of damaged hair are dry, brittle, split, or frizzy hair ends.

The hair can become dry due to excessive use of hair styling products, pollution, overexposure to the sun, the use of chlorine water while washing the hair, and chemical treatments. Lack of proper hair care can also cause dry hair.

Dry and damaged hair can lead to many other hair related problems like dandruff, hair loss, etc. There are many products which are available in the market that promise to treat dry and dull hair, but very few of them are actually effective. A better alternative to these chemical products is a homemade remedy.
Banana and Honey Hair Mask
Take an overripe banana and mash it with a little water, until you have a thick paste. Add 2 tablespoons of organic honey and 1 tablespoon of almond oil. Mix up all these ingredients. Strain the mixture through a sieve so that there are no banana chunks in the concoction. Apply this mask on dry hair and leave it on for half an hour. Wash the mask off with water. This mask will repair and hydrate the hair, and make it soft and glossy.
Coconut Oil Deep Conditioner
In a small bowl, pour 2 tablespoons of organic coconut oil. Add a tablespoon of argan oil and a few drops of rosehip essential oil. Combine, then apply it on slightly damp hair. For best results, massage oil on the scalp and use a comb to spread it through your hair. Soak a clean towel in warm water, wring the towel of excess water, and wrap it around your head. After 15 - 20 minutes, remove the towel, shampoo and condition the hair. With regular use, you'll have soft, silky hair.
Egg and Honey Mask
Egg is a good source of protein and helps repair damaged hair cuticles. To make this mask, beat 2 eggs with 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil with a hand blender, until you have a thick mayonnaise-like consistency. Add a tablespoon of organic honey and few drops of bergamot essential oil to this mixture and slather it on your hair from the roots to the tips. Cover the hair with a shower cap and leave this mask on for half an hour. Shampoo and condition your hair.
Okra Hair Conditioner
This hair conditioner is very easy to prepare, and it will give your hair incredible shine. To prepare this hair conditioner, cut a few okra into 2-inch long pieces and boil them in water. Once the okra becomes soft and sludgy, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool. Strain the okra from the water and reserve the water. After shampooing your hair, use this water as a conditioner. Wash off as usual.
Avocado and Olive Oil Mask
Avocado is rich in vitamin A, vitamin E, and saturated fats. This makes it ideal for providing nourishment to dehydrated and damaged hair. In a small bowl, mash half a ripe avocado with 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. Combine it well until you have a thick consistency which is non-lumpy. Apply this to damp hair after shampooing and rinsing. Leave the mask on for about 20 - 30 minutes, and wash it off thoroughly with lukewarm water.
Mayonnaise and Honey Mask
If you have very coarse and dry hair, then you will certainly benefit from this mask. Mix a quarter cup of mayonnaise with two tablespoons of honey, one tablespoon of avocado oil and coconut oil. Pulse this in a blender until you have a thick but spreadable consistency. Apply this natural hair mask to your hair from the roots to the tips. Wash off the mask with lukewarm water.
Useful Tips to prevent Dry Hair
~ Do not shampoo your hair everyday. Shampooing your hair daily will strip it off oil and make it more dry and frizzy.
~ Never wash your hair with very hot water. Use lukewarm water while shampooing, and for the final rinse after conditioning use cool water. Cold water seals the cuticles of the hair, making it less prone to frizz.
~ Avoid brushing or combing your hair while it is still wet. Wet hair is very fragile, and it is also prone to breakage.
~ Limit the use of a blow dryer for drying or styling the hair. Regular use of blow dryers can damage the hair and make it dry and dull.
~ Schedule regular haircuts to prevent split ends and brittle hair.
~ Limit the use of hair styling tools like hair straighteners, curling irons, and hot rollers. Heat styling hair frequently leads to hair breakage and dryness.
~ Avoid frequent use of hair colors, chemical hair treatments, and hair styling products.
~ Protect your hair from dust, pollution, wind, and direct sunlight.

You don't have to live with dry, frizzy, and dull hair. By using any of these home remedies, you can have soft, glossy, and healthy hair always.
