Whether your hair is dry and frizzy or thin and limp, a hair spa can definitely help you to have healthy, shiny hair. But, getting a hair spa at a salon is quite expensive. So, the next best thing to do is to get it done at home.
Proper hair care is very essential to keep your hair thick and shiny. Just shampooing and conditioning is not going to help in keeping hair healthy. What you need is deep conditioning in the form of hair spa.
A hair spa typically consists of an oil massage, application of hair mask, shampooing and deep conditioning.
Hair spas that are done in a salon are quite expensive and a monthly ritual will leave your purse lighter. But, you can do a hair spa at home too. All you need are the right hair care products.
How to do Hair Spa at Home
~ Extra virgin olive oil ~ Deep conditioner ~ Shampoo ~ Hair mask ~ Wide-toothed comb ~ Towel
Heat half a cup of extra virgin olive oil and let it cool down. When the oil is still a little warm, apply it on your scalp and hair. Massage the oil thoroughly on your scalp with your fingertips with gentle circular motion. Make sure that you do not tug or pull at your hair while massaging, or it will lead to hair fall.
Next, soak a clean towel in a bucket of warm water. Wring the towel to remove the excess water. Wrap the warm towel around your head, so that your hair is covered by the towel. Leave the towel wrapped on your head for 10 to 15 minutes. This will help the oil penetrate the shaft of the hair and will nourish and condition it.
Once you have applied steam to your hair, the next step is to wash your hair thoroughly with shampoo. Choose a shampoo that suits your hair type and texture. Rinse hair with lukewarm water.
Dab the excess water from hair. Make sure that you do not rub your hair vigorously with the towel. This will only rough up the hair cuticles and contribute to frizziness. Take a small amount of deep conditioner and apply it on your hair. For even application, divide your hair with a wide-toothed comb into equal sections.
You can also use a natural conditioner that is suitable for your hair type. By deep conditioning your hair, you can protect your hair from frizziness. Leave the conditioner on your hair for15 to 20 minutes.
Rinse hair to remove conditioner from hair. Pat dry with a towel to remove excess water. Next, section your hair with a with a wide-toothed comb. Apply the hair mask liberally over each section of hair.
Make sure that each strand of hair is well-coated with the hair mask. Wrap a warm towel on your head for 10 to 15 minutes and then wash it off thoroughly with lukewarm water.
Homemade Hair Masks
Try this hair spa once every month and you will see a noticeable difference in your hair texture and quality. Both hair masks and deep conditioners used for hair spa can be bought from any good salon or store. If you would like to use natural ingredients, then here are some recipes for homemade hair masks.
For Dry Damaged Hair
Mix 2 beaten eggs with 6 tablespoons of coconut oil. Whisk the mixture to get a homogeneous texture. Apply it on your scalp and massage with your fingers.
The heat produced by friction during massage helps the oil to penetrate deep into the scalp, thereby nourishing the roots. Cover your head with a shower cap or a plastic wrap and leave it for at least 20 minutes. Rinse it off with water and a mild, suitable shampoo.
For Normal Hair
Mix one mashed banana with 1 beaten egg, 2 tablespoons of honey, 3 tablespoons of milk, and 5 tablespoons of olive oil. Whip up the concoction well, so as to get a uniform texture.
Apply on the scalp and leave it on for about 30 minutes. Wash your hair with a suitable shampoo.
For Oily Hair
In a small bowl, mix ¼ cup of coconut milk with 2 tablespoons of thick yogurt.
Apply this mixture on your scalp and hair. After 20 minutes, wash hair with a mild shampoo.
To have beautiful and lustrous locks, you do not need to spend a lot of money. By undergoing certain hair treatments at home, you can get shiny and healthy hair.
