Using natural products is no longer considered a fad, but, a need. Most of the products used for hair or skin, that are available in the market contain large number of chemicals, which will do more harm than good. Therefore, most of us are going back to the age-old natural remedies. Using baking soda is one such natural remedy that can help in treating hair loss, and also help in having healthy hair.
Washing Hair with Baking Soda
Any type of shampoo found in the market contains harsh chemicals which can damage hair. Yes, even the extra mild, moisturizing shampoo that you use contains harmful chemicals. Using shampoo frequently, and for a long time, can leave hair frizzy and dry. Therefore, switching to a more natural product is definitely a good idea. Baking soda is a good and healthy substitute for shampoo and conditioner. It absorbs the naturally produced oil in hair and hence, acts as a dry shampoo. This natural product is good for oily and greasy hair. Secondly, many people use it for cleansing hair off the oily substances and chemicals left by shampoos and conditions. This helps in treatment and prevention of hair loss. However, it is also true that initially your hair may actually look bad. But, the soda definitely works wonders after the initial wash.
Tips on Using Baking Soda
- You should add 2-3 teaspoons of baking soda to little warm water. Mix to form a paste. Apply this paste directly to your scalp and massage well. Then wash off with water.
- The second method involves using soda along with your shampoo. Pour the shampoo in your palm and add ½ teaspoon of baking soda to it. Mix it together and apply to your scalp. Wash off with water after a couple of seconds.
You can make a mixture of baking soda and water and store it in a shampoo bottle in your bathroom. The soda contains a high amount of alkali and hence, it is essential to counter this high pH. Therefore, it is advised to rinse hair with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water every time you use baking soda. You should add 1-2 drops of apple cider vinegar to 1 cup of water and rinse hair with it. You should note that these products do not help in hair growth. They only stop hair fall and other disorders of the hair like oiliness and dandruff. Once these disorders are cleared off, hair fall stops and normal hair growth takes place.
There are no known side effects of using baking soda for hair wash. However, as a note of caution, you should remember, if at all any kind of irritation occurs on using baking soda or apple cider vinegar, you should stop using these products immediately. Take care!
